The exhibition, "The Friendship Between the Great Earth and Human Being," by Robert Lo (Lo, Cheng-Hsien) opened at the Fontbonne College Gallery of Art on February 22, 2002. Lo's Chinese ink paintings depict nature at its utmost beauty. Fourteen paintings of landscape scenes on paper and silk are currently on display at the gallery. Lo's elegant calligraphies are another exquisite Chinese art form in the exhibition.
Inspired by landscapes, Lo created paintings of oceans, sunsets, mountains, clouds, waterfalls, and flowers. Various tones of ink in black and red were skillfully painted to reveal intricate and expansive images of nature. Through his graceful brushstrokes, landscapes are captured in a still moment of time. Whether it is a tranquil panorama of clouds or a swirling typhoon, Lo is able to portray the splendor and magnificence of the scene. |

More than 200 people attended the opening reception
Several hundred people attended the opening reception on February 22nd to view the art and to meet Robert Lo. The exhibition was well received by enthusiastic viewers. The highlight of the evening was a special chance to view a 43 feet long scene of the Badlands in South Dakota that was only displayed at the opening.
Dr. Dennis Golden, President of Fontbonne College, gave the introduction of Robert Lo and an overview of his professional art experience, honors, and awards. Also speaking about Robert's exhibit and teaching at Fontbonne College were Judith Meyer, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, and Cat Connor-Talasek, Fine Art Department Chair. As a sponsor of Robert Lo's exhibition, the Chinese Culture and Education Foundation (CCEF), asked Dr. Chingling Tai, board member, to explain more about this organization, its board members, and mission. |

Prof. Robert Lo talked to audience
The Chinese Culture and Education Foundation has been an intricate part of the success of the exhibit. Chinese music and food donated by the CCEF complimented the evening. The Fontbonne College Gallery of Art would like to express their appreciation to the Chinese Culture and Education Foundation and all of their members who volunteered at the opening reception.
